The news anchor is seguing into the weather report, “It’s spring and we want to know now, when are the temperatures going to warm up?”
There is a call (tongue-in-cheek, I hope) for Punxsutawney Phil to be executed because he got it wrong again.
These are examples of a prevalent attitude that I have been noticing for a while, an attitude that I find slightly irritating. In this day and age we seem to be so tuned into having whatever seems to be a problem to us, fixed by someone, i.e. government, an agency, the weather man. There are some things like the weather, which are simply out of the control of us humans. We see March 20, on the calendar and expect warm weather with flowers and trees blooming. God didn’t design the calendar, man did. Sometimes God decides to give us temperatures in the 30’s with sleet and snow.
I have wondered at times if God does it to play a joke on us. I do believe He has a sense of humor since we are made in His image and we have that sense of humor. Whatever His reason, He is in control and knows what is best for us, all of us on this planet He created.
I would love to hear a weather man or woman acknowledge that God is in control of the weather and that he or she is just the messenger of a weather forecast, a weather prediction; nor is it “Mother Nature,” but rather “Father God” who is in control.
The Bible has numerous examples of God controlling the weather for reasons of His choosing. A few examples are: the flood of Genesis 7, the plague of hail of Exodus 9, the 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine of Genesis 41, and the 3 year drought Elijah prophesied in 1 Kings 17 along with its end in 1 Kings 18.
Oh, that we would just acknowledge God and His power and give Him the credit He is due!
